"As a photographer I’m proud of this photo. I also had the pleasure of being part of this photo (except I jumped up to take the photo) and you can see my towel down next to the guy with the white panama hat. This was a little cove not far from Monopoli where hubby and I swam every day, ate figs with the local who kindly offered them and watched the crowd change from morning to late afternoon. The card players were faithful, they showed up everyday, they revelled in the enjoyment of swimming, sunning, friendship and playing. I loved watching everyone on the beach ‘play’, it was such a beautiful lesson to see how glorious it is when no matter what age you are, you allow yourself to enjoy life, not produce anything other than love, joy and memories. It will always be a favourite snap of Italian life.
